A Doll's House Essay

Custom essay writing help: A Doll's House Essay

“Good literature substitutes for an experience which we have not ourselves lived through” is a quote stated by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This quote is properly interpreted as that literature is used as a leeway for people to feel and go through experiences to which they are restricted to in their lives. This is an areeable quote because there are so many things in life that are within limit, and good literature helps pacify those yearnings for going somewhere and experiencing things beyond unyielding bounds. Two good works of literature that relates to this quote precisely are Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare and A Doll’s House by Hendrik Ibsen.

Horatio's appearance in Hamlet

Custom essay writing help: Horatio's appearance in Hamlet

Horatio is the one significant character at the end of the play, chosen to reveal to the world the real „story” (V.ii.302) of the events in and around the Danish court. This last demand of the tragic hero implies the view of Horatio as a man of moral integrity and honesty. This thought is also based on some of his replies to the protagonist. „I came to see your father’s funeral” (I.ii.176) is the direct and clear answer to Hamlet’s question about the reason for his visit. And again in the last scene of the first act, he honestly tells the Prince of Denmark about his „wild and whirling words” (I.iiiii.138), without holding back or making any other unnecessary comment. Another aspect, underlining his credibility becomes obvious in Hamlet’s plan to catch the King. Horatio’s „I did very well note him” (I.ii.274), is enough for Hamlet to go on with his revenge plan. And besides the prince also the older soldiers call out for his experience and knowledge as a scholar, which is a remarkable sign for his reliability. Against these passages, his description of the ghost appears more dubious. In his first attempt to convince Hamlet about the ghost’s very nature, he said, he saw Hamlet’s father „once” (I.ii.185). Then only a few lines later he states that he can identify the Old King as good as his own „hands” (I.ii.212). Though weighed against the other points, this argument cannot diminish Horatio’s trustworthiness. And the fact, that he doesn’t become guilty in any of the many conflicts during the play, is a final mark for his trustworthiness. This first view on Horatio’s qualities already indicates a stability of character. Read more…

The Environment

Custom essay writing help: The Environment

The Environment The impact of people on their environment can be devastating. This is where the respective role of governments can make decisions that shape environmental policy and responsibilities. These governments can be broken up into four different levels: local, state, federal and international. Air quality and biodiversity are two current issues that can be related to the role of governments. Global warming is also another implication that has a devastating effect on the environment. Current examples include the rise in sea levels, polar meltdowns, the melting of ice sheets and glaciers and human deaths due to disease from the effects of global warming. Firstly the environment can be defined as the natural features of our surroundings such as plant and animal life and their habitats, water, soils and the atmosphere. A local government named Rockdale Municipal Council has implemented certain actions to deal with the quality in that region. They have recognized that the main source of poor air quality originates from air pollution sources such as motor vehicles, industrial premises and aircraft emissions. The solutions to these problems include improvements to Ryde and Botany Bay cycle way, integration of land use and transport planning strategies, production of Air Quality – the Facts booklet for community, investigation of complaints regarding odours and dust, tree planting and preparation of a Local Air Quality Management Plan in 1999. Air quality is a major issue in most states within Australia that affects our greenhouse, to tackle the implications state governments have created policies and responsibilities. For instance Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) is a program that enables mainly state governments to take action on greenhouse. CCP provides these state governments with a strategic framework to diminish greenhouse gas emissions by helping them identify and recognize the emissions of their council and community,…
